Quick and Easy Thanksgiving Vignette with Thrifted Finds
Hello, guys!
I’ll share my tips and tricks for sourcing decor as well as simple styling ideas on creating a Thanksgiving vignette. Follow along and learn how to create one for your own home! It’s sure to add a welcoming and cozy feel for all to enjoy. Let’s get into it!
1. Find a Crate or Basket.
First, you will need a wood crate. This will serve as the ‘thing’ that holds your vignette decor. If you don’t have a crate and/or don’t want to go looking for one, you could also opt to use a basket.
To make this vignette on a budget, I recently thrifted wooden crate for just $2.00! My tips for finding a vintage wooden crate in a pinch is to check your local thrift stores. You could also scour FB Marketplace for one that is local in your area.
2. Add a Large Pumpkin.
Now, we can start building the actual vignette.
Because I was building my vignette for the entry way landing, it was going to be placed on the floor. So, to easily by seen by others, I first turned the crate on it’s side.
Next, I added a large olive green velvet pumpkin on the left side. It’s a big, substantial decor item that packs a big punch in a small vignette such as this one.
Other large-scale items you could use include:
- fall florals placed in a vase or crock
- a lantern
- a topiary
Then, to add a layer of texture on the bottom of the crate, I placed two burlap leaves to the right of the pumpkin. This step could be optional if you wanted to skip it altogether.
On the flip side, if you wanted a layer of texture there, other possible items can include:
3. Place Pillar Candles Inside.
Then, on top of the burlap leaves, I styled a set of three faux pillar candles with inlaid leaves. These candles were thrifted for just a few dollars!
With their cozy and inviting glow, candles add such warmth to any vignette.
Also, feel free to use faux taper candles! If you have a set of brass or milk glass candle holders, those would look beautiful in a vignette like this, too!

4. Tie Ribbon Around Candles.
The last step is, for a bit more movement and depth, to tie ribbon around a few of the candles.
Again, I found this pretty lace ribbon at the thrift store for just .50 cents! I thought it would be the perfect accent for this vignette.
Keep in mind that this is your creation so it’s totally up to you how much ribbon you want to use!
I opted to tie ribbon around the two taller candles in the back. To do so, I simply measured the ribbon around the candle, cut to size, and knotted it at the top.
Other ribbon styles you could use include:

With that, we have a finished Thanksgiving vignette!
Through the use of thrifted items, as well as things I had around the house, I spent a total of $10 on this Thanksgiving display! Isn’t that SO cool?!
Other places you could style a Thanksgiving vignette include:
- as a table centerpiece
- on a mantel or hearth
- on a kitchen or bathroom counter
- as a focal point at a snack or drink station
- on a coffee table
- as front door decor
