Journey Jots #82
Hello, guys! How are you? How was your week? Do you have any fun summer plans coming up??
I love hearing from you and learning what’s new in your world. Let me know in the comments!
Life Lately
Last weekend, we celebrated my niece Molly’s 2nd Birthday!! I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of the kids show ‘Ms Rachel’ but Molly LOVES it. So, that was the theme of the party!
It was a gorgeous day so we spent it outside in the yard, having a pool party of sorts. Her cousins were there so all of the littles played in the kiddie pool and water table.
The day was filled with great food, lots of laughs, and fun presents for Mols! I do love her so.
We also got in another long ride last weekend! We did about 40 miles early in the morning, before all of the smoky air from the Canadian wildfires came in. Somehow, here we are, going headstrong into the last few days before the long ride, which is this coming weekend! I’ll give you an update on how the ride was in the next Jots!
And, finally, June 1 would have been my Grandma Jean’s 95th birthday. She passed away in fall of 2008, my senior year of college.
I miss her every single day and always wonder how life would be if she was still here. I have needed SO much advice over the years that I know she would have had an answer to. She was the best grandma in the world.
And, at the same time, the anniversary of grandpa’s passing is this coming Saturday, the 14th of June. He passed away 4 years ago, though it seems like so much longer than that.
It gives me such peace knowing that they are together in heaven, watching over me and my family everyday. I have cardinals visit me frequently and I get goosebumps each time, knowing that it’s one of them…usually I think it’s grandma. Life can be big and scary sometimes and those quiet signs from above keep me going on the hardest of days, you know??
Weekly Shopping Finds- Summer Essentials
These are items and/or products that I use all the time during these warm summer months. Check them out!
- Due to Patagonia’s sustainability practices, this ball cap is my go-to on hot days. I just braid my hair, put on a hat, and I’m good to go!
- I LOVE iced tea in the summer. I brew it, add a bunch of honey, and usually mix it with sparkling water. It’s a refreshing drink.
- These are my favorite pony tail binders. The neutral colors go with everything and they don’t get stuck in my hair!
- I cannot walk outside in the sun without sunglasses! These sunnies are super affordable, cute colors, and are polarized.
- My beloved Stanley straw mug keeps my water ice cold all day. Perfect for iced coffee or iced tea, too!

To do so, there are a handful of timeless, vintage items that I gravitate towards year after year. The best part about these items is that they can be found at the thrift store for just a few dollars! Find it all here.

Happy birthday to little miss Molly. So adorable. These are great memories. Thanks for sharing Rachel! XO- MaryJo
Yes! So many fun times ahead! Thanks, friend! Enjoy the day!
Looks like Molly had a fabulous birthday! I can’t believe she’s two, time sure does go by fast! Good luck at the big race!
She sure did!
She’s so big:) Using her fork and starting to think about potty training! Thanks, Donna!
I know how you feel about death anniversaries and needing your grandma to ask for advice. I think my love of vintage has come about as a way for me to stay connected to my mom & grandmother. So much of what I have was theirs.
Hi, MaryAnn!
Oh gosh the advice she would have for me!! That’s so special…I’m so happy that you have their items to keep and cherish. Thanks so much for stopping by today…I appreciate it!
I can’t tell you the amount of times I want to walk over to the phone 📞 to call my mom to ask for advice and to tell her this or that story, or just talk about what’s troubling me to get her take on it.
I guess it will have to wait until we get to see them again. 🙏🏻
Thanks for your blog, Rachel. I love looking at your vintage finds and all the photos of your displays.
That makes me so happy. I’m grateful for the encouragement…thank you!
