You are in for a treat today because, once again, we are bringing you triple the thrifting! I am so happy to have you back for our monthly thrifting series here on the blog. This month, we’ve invited Jennifer from Cottage on Bunker Hill to join in the fun.

Together, the three of us are bringing you three different thrift posts and ways to use thrifted decor in your home. Below, you will find links to both of their posts. Head over to their blogs as well and say hello! You may find just the thing you were looking for.

My friend and partner in this series, MaryJo from Master’pieces’ of my Life, is sharing her amazing collection of vintage and thrifted salt and pepper shakers. How pretty are those?! The textured glass is just gorgeous.

Thrifted Goodies Volume 11- Haul and Styling

I’ve been on the hunt for neutral pieces that I can add to my hutch as well as items that can be used to decorate my home for Summer. Luckily, I have successfully been able to thrift those items plus some! I’m thrilled to share these finds with you today and show you that creating a beautiful home does not need to cost hundreds of dollars. Let’s get into it!

Ironstone Creamer

The first item I wanted to share with you is this adorable Ironstone creamer. I’ve wanted one of these tall ones for so long! These size creamers are so helpful for layering into vignettes.

I was doing a quick spin through the store a few weeks ago and was looking at the art section when my hubby called me about something. When I was talking to him, I happened to look over my shoulder to the dish aisle and this was just sitting there, waiting for me. I only paid .99 cents for it!

Aren’t the colored stripes so pretty?! I’m going to be able to use this creamer through the Summer months with some of my red, white and blue enamelware.

For now, I have it styled in my hutch with this Jadeite bowl and some other Ironstone pieces.

Green Transferware Dishes

You guys. Can you believe these?! I can’t even. This is proof that patience always wins out! I’ve wanted green transferware dishes for such a long time and am just ecstatic about them.

I’m not sure why the pricing was wonky…they may have been priced on different days or by a different staff person. But, the small plates were $1.99 each and the large plates were .99 cents each. Backwards, right?

Now, there was a whole set of this pattern. There were 8 each of bowls, small plates and large plates as well as tea cups with matching saucers. I hummed and hawed about how many of each to purchase as well as of which type. I had the bowls in my cart because I thought it would be neat to have 4 of each.

Sometimes when I’m thrifting, even though the prices are crazy good, I have to stop and think for a minute about how often I would use the item. Abiding by a minimal lifestyle, I can’t bring everything home that I would like to. So, because of that, I ended up leaving the bowls behind and only purchasing 4 large plates and 4 small plates.

I am using the pretty plates in my hutch as decor. The amazing thing about the color green is that it can be used all year round! These dishes will for sure be used as background color with my enamelware for Summer.

For now, the green plates are displayed with my milk glass and other Ironstone pieces. They just make me so happy!

Enamel Kettle

Look at this crusty, rusty thing!! Isn’t it fabulous?!

It’s very rare for me to find actual vintage enamelware at the thrift store. This pretty kettle was buried in a box. I noticed the green handle peeking out from under something else and was priced at only $5.00! I immediately scooped it up and placed it in my cart.

A few minutes later, another shopper stopped me and told me how amazing the kettle is. In my head I was like “I know!!!!” But I simply said “Thanks!!” 🙂

Old things are imperfect with dents and stains, which is why they are so alluring to me, but there is something special about the way vintage enamelware looks with the rust and chips and broken bits. I don’t know what it is about this old metal but it’s just comforting to me. It’s been through some things, you know? I can relate to that.

I don’t have this color in my collection yet and I’m so happy to add it in with the others! In a few weeks, I’m going to be switching up my hutch decor for Summer where all of my enamelware will make a pretty appearance.

Until then, I stuck some faux yellow flowers in it and paired it with some of those green transfer plates. So simple yet so pretty!

Brass Lamp

I don’t regularly check the lamp section of the thrift store, because, well, I don’t really need any lamps. But, I was looking for cute clothes for my niece and the lamps are right next to the baby clothing. I just happened to look over to the lamp shelves and this was sitting there for just $5.00!

I had no idea if it actually worked or not but for that price I couldn’t leave it there. If it didn’t work, I could re-wire it, no problem. Well, I brought it home, put a lightbulb in it and it worked perfectly!

I ended up moving the smaller lamp that was sitting in this spot to my desk and put the brass lamp here instead. This lamp is a tad larger which makes sense for this space.

The little twisty knob is so pretty and the lamp gives off such a gorgeous glow in the evening. So, the moral of my story is to always check the lamps!!

2 Ironstone Bowls

Next up are these two Ironstone bowls. Now, I did not find these at the same time nor did I find them at the same store. Yet, they are the exact same pattern, just different sizes. Isn’t that incredible?!

The larger bowl was only .54 cents (basically free) and the smaller bowl was .99 cents. These old dishes just speak to me and make me happy and for those prices?? I mean, come on.

I have a few Ironstone platters that have this exact same pattern around the edges that I’ve also found at thrift stores. It’s just so neat that a collection can be created through thoughtful time and patience.

These two bowls are, of course, displayed in my hutch. I’ve been playing around with stacking dishes and other pieces together. Home decorating is an ever- evolving process and I’m constantly learning new things to try.

That’s the beauty of thrifting. You can find pretty things for cheap, bring them home and teach yourself how to decorate.

Barn Painting

You guys. I’ve saved the best for last. This old oil painting is now at the very top of my list of best thrifted finds ever! I was trying really hard to keep my composure when I found this but was totally freaking out in my head.

If you don’t know, I collect old barn art. They are pretty hard to come by for an affordable price. I spotted this barn from a mile away and made a beeline for it. I honestly didn’t care how much it was priced at because it was coming home with me regardless. Well, it was a mere $3.00. Just…I can’t even.

The colors on this old oil painting are just gorgeous. Look how vivid they are! I truly appreciate the time and effort that the artist put into creating this barn scene.

I actually had been keeping an eye out for a piece of art that would fit on the bottom shelf of my hutch. Look how perfectly this barn fits in this spot!! It’s incredible how these old items make their way into my life at just the right time.

If you look at it from a little ways away, it’s almost as if you are stepping into the painting Mary Poppins style and taking a stroll down that road. I think there is a Trout stream back there. What’s around that curve, do you think? A River? A field? A big garden? Everyone sees art differently which is a beautiful thing.

Old art has patina and character to it that you just can’t get from mass produced items. If you are looking to add color or unique personality to your home, I highly recommend searching for some vintage art. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Closing Tidbits

There you have them! I truly hope you enjoyed these thrifted goodies volume 11. Old things are neat and thrifting for them makes it extra special. We don’t know where vintage pieces have been but that’s what is so appealing about them. They have many stories attached to them and now get to become a part of yours. Be encouraged to seek out that what makes you feel part of something bigger, finding meaning along the way.
