Finding your treasure is a journey!

In my early-mid twenties, I used to be the person who would spend weekends going to big box retail stores looking for the next brand new piece of home decor.

You know, the home accessories that are sold in masses and come from some far off country. That was my idea of decorating. I followed the crowd and had no sense of what my own design style was because I never took the time to explore, nor did I know any better.

Fast forward a few years when I met a boy (now husband) and a whole new world opened up to me. My husband was brought up on antiques, knowing the ins and outs of that style and living in a house full of antique and vintage decor. His family took me to my first antique store while we were dating around Christmas time. Going into it I was very unsure of the whole situation. His mom reassured me saying “Just look around and sometimes you will find a treasure!”

It was quite a large antique store and the number of items overwhelmed me; I didn’t know which way to look! Being Christmas time, many of the vendors had vintage and antique Christmas decor in their booths and I remember a magical feeling, like going back in time.

I meandered my way through the aisles, waiting for something to catch my eye, like his mom said. And then there it was! Up high atop an old brown wardrobe was a small stained glass piece. It was a cute little piece displaying an ocean scene with a sea turtle, my very favorite animal! Carefully, I took it down from its place and admired its beauty. The maker of it had taken so much time and used so much intricate detail in the colors. I had found my treasure and was completely hooked.

Every antique and vintage piece has a story.

When something catches your eye and finds its way to you, it’s special. It becomes part of your journey. The purpose of this blog is to share the joy that antiques can bring, incorporating antiques into your decor, and to introduce you to specific types of antiques. My hope is that you will wander into an antique store, maybe for the first time, and take a journey on finding your treasure.
